The katana: soul of the samurai

The katana is Japan’s traditional curved sword, symbol of the samurai caste since the Muromachi period (14th century). Recognizable by its single-edged curved blade of approximately 70–80 cm, the katana served for centuries as a combat weapon, ritual object and mark of noble status. Today it stands among the most sought-after collectibles in the world, prized for its refined aesthetics and the extraordinary craftsmanship its forging demands.

Traditional forging: from tamahagane to hamon

Every authentic samurai sword is born through three essential stages: the forge (repeated hammering of the steel to eliminate impurities), differential hardening (quenching the blade in water after applying a clay coating, which creates the distinctive hamon, the temper line visible along the edge) and finally mirror polishing, performed by hand with progressively finer stones. Our katanas faithfully reproduce this centuries-old process.

Materials: steels for every need

  • 1060 / 1095 carbon steel: the steel of functional katanas, with excellent edge retention and impact resistance. Ideal for tameshigiri and for collectors seeking an authentic blade.
  • Damascus steel: obtained by forging hundreds of layers of different steels, it displays a unique iridescent pattern across the blade surface. Highly decorative, it is the choice of high-level enthusiasts.
  • T10 steel: high carbon and silicon steel, prized for its superior hardness and the naturally visible hamon that appears after hardening.
  • Manganese steel: used for special finishes such as black or amethyst blades, for decorative katanas with high visual impact.

Types of Japanese swords

  • Katana: the long sword (~70–80 cm), worn edge-up through the belt (obi).
  • Wakizashi: short sword (~30–60 cm), companion to the katana in the daishō, worn together by samurai.
  • Tanto: ritual dagger (~15–30 cm), used for ceremonies and close-range defense.
  • Ninjato: the ninja’s sword, generally straighter than the katana with a shorter blade.
  • Nodachi and Odachi: longer field swords reserved for great masters.

Sharp or decorative?

All our katanas are collector’s replicas intended for display, decoration and cosplay. For those who practice martial arts (iaido, kenjutsu, tameshigiri), we offer versions with a sharp functional blade, crafted from tempered steels and balanced for cutting. The sharpened version is available on select models; for other replicas, the blade is unsharpened to ensure safe display.

Components of the samurai sword

  • Tsuba: the decorated guard, often in brass, iron or alloy, featuring traditional motifs (dragons, sakura blossoms, Buddhist symbols).
  • Tsuka: the handle wrapped in genuine ray skin (samegawa) and bound with silk or cotton cord (ito).
  • Saya: the lacquered wooden scabbard, often finished with horn, Japanese lacquer or inlay work.
  • Sageo: the decorative cord that secures the scabbard to the belt.
  • Habaki, seppa, fuchi, kashira: the small metal fittings that complete the traditional mounting.

Who our collection is for

Our samurai swords are designed for: collectors seeking unique and authentic pieces; enthusiasts of Japanese culture, manga and anime (One Piece, Demon Slayer, Bleach); practitioners of traditional martial arts; and anyone looking for an original and meaningful gift for a birthday, graduation or anniversary.

Katana care

To preserve the beauty of your samurai sword, we recommend regularly applying a suitable oil (chōji oil or neutral mineral oil) to the blade, storing it in its scabbard in a dry environment, and avoiding direct finger contact with the blade (moisture can oxidize carbon steel).
