The story behind the blade

Tanjiro Kamado is the protagonist of Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer, a young coal seller turned demon hunter fighting to restore his sister Nezuko. His Nichirin blade, once forged, turns a rare and deep black — considered an ill omen — yet it is this very blade that blazes crimson during the Sun Breathing technique in key scenes. The Tanjiro Kamado Katana sharpened edition reproduces this iconic weapon.

The blade (nagasa approximately 70 cm) features a deep black patina finish consistent with Tanjiro’s Nichirin in the manga. The surface carries a uniform polish that preserves the texture of the underlying steel.

The fittings closely follow the Demon Slayer design: tsuka wrapped in black ito over dark samegawa, dark alloy tsuba in a twelve-petal rosette shape (the character’s signature visual motif), matte black lacquered saya with blue Tanjiro-toned shading, black sageo, and burnished brass habaki with a patina effect.

The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.

How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
