Owase is a port city in Mie Prefecture, on Japan’s southern Pacific coast: a land of fishermen, tuna grounds, and driving rain. Owase’s rainfall is among the highest in the archipelago, giving it a distinct identity in Japanese landscape poetry. The Owase Katana sharpened edition draws its inspiration from this coastal maritime atmosphere.
The manganese steel blade features a purple finish, a chromatic treatment rarely seen in Western replicas: the patina shifts the surface toward eggplant-plum tones, referencing the color of certain deep-sea fish found in the waters off Owase. Nagasa approximately 70 cm, hardness 58–60 HRC.
The fittings adopt the purple-maritime palette: tsuka wrapped in dark violet ito over samegawa, dark alloy tsuba with a rippled wave motif, saya lacquered in deep violet with dark blue shading, violet sageo, and burnished silver habaki.
A replica for collectors of unusual color palettes, décor for maritime or coastal-themed rooms, a gift for anyone who has traveled along Mie’s Pacific coast or who prefers blades with unconventional finishes. A katana that brings the color of the deep sea off a rain-soaked port into your home.
Intended for collection, display, and decoration only. Not designed for functional use (combat, cutting, sparring, or martial training).

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
