Akane is a deep red dye extracted from the root of the plant of the same name (Rubia argyi, Japanese madder). It is one of the oldest natural dyes in Japanese textile tradition, used to color the kimono of miko shrine dancers. The Katana Akane captures that quality of deep mineral red.
The T10 steel blade (60–62 HRC hardness, nagasa approximately 70 cm) carries an authentic hamon. The tsuka is wrapped over genuine rayskin (authentic samegawa) before the ito covering.
The fittings embrace the akane red: madder-red ito over authentic samegawa, a patinated bronze tsuba with a madder-leaf motif, a saya lacquered in deep red with copper-toned gradients, and scarlet sageo. Burnished copper habaki.
A display piece for interiors with warm color palettes, a decorative accent for rooms with neutral upholstery where a red focal point makes an impact, and a gift for enthusiasts of traditional dyeing or for those who have visited the Tsuji Tokoyo Museum in Kyoto — dedicated to natural dyes. A katana that brings the depth of color into your home.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
