The story behind the blade

The Spartan Sword of King Leonidas in its sharpened edition is a replica of the leaf-shaped xiphos that defined the arsenal of the hoplites of Lacedaemon. Short double-edged sharpened blade with an acute tip, wood or bone guard, and a simple spherical pommel.

A sharpened version for the most rigorous collectors of Spartan swords, popularized by Zack Snyder’s film 300 (2007) and Frank Miller’s graphic novel. Prized by cosplayers of Leonidas and the 300, reenactors of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC), and those decorating spaces with an Ancient Greece theme. Pairs beautifully with an aspis shield decorated with the Spartan lambda and a purple cloak.

Piece intended for collection, display, and decoration. Not designed for functional use (combat, cutting, sparring, or martial training).

How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.

Our pieces ship in a scabbard and protective packaging suitable for initial transport from our warehouse to your home.
