In the Japanese lunar calendar, nights of mangetsu are dedicated to tsukimi: the contemplation of the full moon. Families offer white dango on a dish set out on the veranda, accompanied by pampas grass (susuki) branches. The Katana Mangetsu is a replica built to be admired under that same moonlight.
The 1060 carbon steel blade (nagasa approximately 70 cm, hardness 58–60 HRC) is finished with a particularly pronounced mirror polish, designed to capture lunar brightness and return it like the surface of still water. The sori curve is even and regular.
A silver palette dominates the fittings: pearl-gray ito over light samegawa, a patinated silver tsuba with a lunar-sphere-surrounded-by-clouds motif, a cream-white lacquered saya with silver gradients, and a light-gray sageo. Habaki in burnished silver.
Best displayed in cases with cool lighting (indirect sunlight or 4000K LEDs), ideal in rooms with large east-facing windows. Appreciated by astronomy enthusiasts, readers of Murakami (the moon recurs throughout his most celebrated novels), or as a gift for someone born under a moon sign.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
