The story behind the blade

Jade (hisui) is the stone of the imperial dynasties of the Far East: a symbol of balance, longevity, and harmony. In Japan its use dates to the Jomon period, and it has remained ever since the material of magatama amulets placed in the tombs of the nobility. The Katana Hisui evokes this lineage through a deep-green palette.

The Damascus steel blade is built from layered folds that, after polishing, reveal veining similar to that of a fine jade cross-section. The nagasa of approximately 70 cm and the hardness around 58–60 HRC deliver a visually rich replica for display purposes.

The fittings continue the gemological theme: imperial-green ito braided over light samegawa, dark-alloy tsuba with a magatama motif (the comma-shaped beads sacred to Shinto), bottle-green lacquered scabbard with coordinated sageo, burnished gold habaki. Every element converges on the palette of the sacred stone.

A perfect replica for collectors’ showcases that favor unusual color pairings, a gift for enthusiasts of mineralogy or Shinto, and decoration for studies with an imperial or Japanese-historical theme. A katana that carries the solemnity of a magatama.

Every blade, three stages

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.

01

Forging

The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.

02

Tempering

The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.

03

Polishing

The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.

Frequently asked questions

How to care for your blade
After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.
Is this sword sharpened?
Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
What are the shipping times?
Ships within 7 business days for in-stock items. If the item is on preorder, the expected date is shown at the top of the page.
Can I return my order?
Yes, you have 30 days from delivery to return it.
Is it legal to own a sword?
Yes — owning a sword in your home is perfectly legal in the United States, whether for collection, decoration, historical reenactment, or sport practice (HEMA). Carrying it in public is restricted by state and local laws: a sword is considered a bladed weapon, and transporting it outside your home without a legitimate reason (event, training, transport to a club) may be subject to local regulations. Our pieces ship in a scabbard and protective packaging suitable for initial transport from our warehouse to your home.
Is payment secure?
Yes, completely. Our store is protected by an SSL certificate (https://) that encrypts all communications between your browser and our site. Payments are processed directly by Stripe and PayPal — we never have access to your card details (card number, CVV, expiration date). Your information is shared only between you and the payment processor, never through our servers.
