Forging
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
The peony (botan) is called in Japan “the king of flowers”: introduced from China during the Nara period, it quickly conquered the imperial gardens with its chromatic exuberance and the size of its petals. In kabuki theater, two characters wear peony-decorated kimono to express passion and stature. The Katana Botan draws on this regal quality.
The T10 steel blade (hardness 60-62 HRC, nagasa of approximately 70 cm) is polished with a deep mirror finish that contrasts beautifully with the rich colors of the fittings. Pronounced sori curvature, well-defined kissaki.
The fittings reflect a peony in full bloom: magenta-pink ito over samegawa, bronze tsuba chased with an eight-petal peony corolla motif (the multi-petal variety characteristic of Japanese cultivars), purple-pink lacquered saya with silver reflections, mustard-yellow sageo. Rose-gold habaki.
A piece for those who decorate with bold palettes, for dark-toned rooms where the pink stands out like a jewel case, and a gift for ikebana enthusiasts or ukiyo-e print collectors (Hokusai and Hiroshige both painted peonies). A katana that needs no permission to command the room.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
