In the Shinto pantheon, the Yatagarasu is a three-legged crow sent by the sun goddess Amaterasu to guide Emperor Jimmu toward the founding of the first kingdom. It is a symbol of divine guidance, intelligence, and the righteous path. The Katana Karasu pays tribute to this figure rather than to the more common image of the crow as a bird of ill omen.
The Damascus steel blade features a cloud-like pattern reminiscent of the crow’s iridescent plumage: each layer of steel catches the light differently, producing reflections that shift from black to steel blue to deep green. Nagasa of approximately 70 cm, hardness 58-60 HRC, traditional hand-polished finish.
The fittings carry the corvid theme throughout: jet-black ito over dark samegawa (the darkest possible combination), patinated iron tsuba with three-legged Yatagarasu chasing, deep-black lacquered saya with a barely perceptible feather motif, black sageo. Burnished brass habaki evoking a gilded beak.
A distinctive piece for collectors who favor dark monochrome aesthetics, a gift for enthusiasts of Shinto mythology, and a display piece for studies with an Eastern or occult theme. A blade that carries within it a myth of divine guidance.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
