The story behind the blade

The Sword of Godfrey — “Oath of Godfrey” — is a replica of the weapon carried by Godfrey of Bouillon (1060–1100), first Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre after the capture of Jerusalem in 1099 and leader of the First Crusade. Long double-edged blade, simple straight crossguard, disc-shaped pommel.

A historical replica of profound spiritual and political significance, a symbol of medieval Christendom. Suited to reenactors of the First Crusade, cosplayers of Godfrey or Baldwin, and decorators of Outremer-themed spaces. How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
