Forging

Karen is a word that resists easy translation: it describes a fragile beauty, a grace that presents itself shyly yet stays fixed in memory long after. The term is often applied to lotus blossoms in temple ponds, to the soft waves of a child’s hair, to verses composed by Heian-era poets. The Katana Karen gathers this quality of measured delicacy.
The 1060 carbon steel blade (58–60 HRC hardness, nagasa approximately 27.5 in.) is finished with an evenly polished surface, free of decorative flourishes that might disturb its clean elegance. The sori curvature is gentle, in keeping with the grace the name evokes.
The fittings carry a pastel palette: powder-pink ito over light samegawa, a patinated silver alloy tsuba with an eight-petal lotus motif, a saya lacquered in antique rose with white gradients, and soft green sageo. Matte silver habaki, chosen to avoid overpowering the gentle tones.
A natural fit for light-toned display cabinets or boudoir-style interiors, and an ideal gift for admirers of Heian literature — Sei Shōnagon, Murasaki Shikibu. A katana that does not insist; it simply persuades.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
