The story behind the blade

In the samurai code, the katana was the weapon of the battlefield. The wakizashi, however, remained constantly at the side: in the home, during visits, in moments of intimacy. The Wakizashi Tamana embodies this role of the companion blade — secondary in size but central in meaning.

Forged in T10 steel with an authentic hamon achieved through differential tempering (not chemical etching), this approximately 20-inch blade displays the undulating line of hardness difference between the edge (62–64 HRC) and the spine (40 HRC). T10 — a high-carbon, tungsten-alloyed steel — is one of the most sought-after materials for premium reproductions.

The fittings follow Japanese canon: tsuka wrapped in hand-braided silk ito over genuine samegawa, iron tsuba worked with stylized botanical motifs, black lacquered wooden scabbard with a high-gloss finish. The dark horn koiguchi and brass habaki add the finishing details of a complete mounting.

Ideal as a companion to a katana for a traditional daisho set, as a standalone piece for those who prefer a more manageable size, as a gift for iaido and tameshigiri practitioners, or displayed horizontally on a stand in a study or living room. The elegance of the wakizashi lies in its measured proportion.

Frequently asked questions

How to care for your blade
After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.
Is this sword sharpened?
Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
What are the shipping times?
Ships within 7 business days for in-stock items. If the item is on preorder, the expected date is shown at the top of the page.
Can I return my order?
Yes, you have 30 days from delivery to return it.
Is it legal to own a sword?
Yes — owning a sword in your home is perfectly legal in the United States, whether for collection, decoration, historical reenactment, or sport practice (HEMA). Carrying it in public is restricted by state and local laws: a sword is considered a bladed weapon, and transporting it outside your home without a legitimate reason (event, training, transport to a club) may be subject to local regulations. Our pieces ship in a scabbard and protective packaging suitable for initial transport from our warehouse to your home.
Is payment secure?
Yes, completely. Our store is protected by an SSL certificate (https://) that encrypts all communications between your browser and our site. Payments are processed directly by Stripe and PayPal — we never have access to your card details (card number, CVV, expiration date). Your information is shared only between you and the payment processor, never through our servers.
