The story behind the blade

The word koshi in Japanese refers to the hips, the lumbar zone, the body’s center of gravity. It is also the term kenjutsu masters use to describe the point from which every true sword strike originates — not from the arms, but from the base. The Wakizashi Koshi embodies this notion of strength that rises from the center.

The 1060 carbon steel blade (58–60 HRC, nagasa approximately 20 inches) is essential, free of decorative ornaments that might distract from its purpose. The standard carbon steel for functional katana, 1060 offers the right balance between edge hardness and structural flexibility — the same philosophy that governs the concept of koshi in the martial arts.

The mounting is sober and sturdy: a tsuka long enough for an occasional two-handed grip, black cotton ito over samegawa, circular patinated iron tsuba with a four-spoke motif. Matte black saya with braided sageo and polished brass habaki.

A wakizashi suited to practitioners seeking a study instrument for their martial path, a katana complement to complete the daisho, or a meditative piece on a shelf. A blade that reminds you where the true center lies: not in the tip, but in the lower core.

Frequently asked questions

How to care for your blade
After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.
Is this sword sharpened?
Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
What are the shipping times?
Ships within 7 business days for in-stock items. If the item is on preorder, the expected date is shown at the top of the page.
Can I return my order?
Yes, you have 30 days from delivery to return it.
Is it legal to own a sword?
Yes — owning a sword in your home is perfectly legal in the United States, whether for collection, decoration, historical reenactment, or sport practice (HEMA). Carrying it in public is restricted by state and local laws: a sword is considered a bladed weapon, and transporting it outside your home without a legitimate reason (event, training, transport to a club) may be subject to local regulations. Our pieces ship in a scabbard and protective packaging suitable for initial transport from our warehouse to your home.
Is payment secure?
Yes, completely. Our store is protected by an SSL certificate (https://) that encrypts all communications between your browser and our site. Payments are processed directly by Stripe and PayPal — we never have access to your card details (card number, CVV, expiration date). Your information is shared only between you and the payment processor, never through our servers.
