The story behind the blade
The ocean holds two simultaneous natures: the calm reflection of the surface and the blind pressure of the deep. The Wakizashi Ocean translates that duality into metal — a blade that shimmers in the light yet reveals a threatening severity when gripped.
The approximately 20-inch nagasa in 1060 carbon steel features a polished finish that captures the hues of its environment: it tends toward blue under daylight, toward lead-gray in dim light. 58–60 HRC hardness, center balance designed for single-handed use. Sharpened entirely in our workshops.
The ito wrapping the tsuka is cobalt blue, tightly braided over genuine samegawa to evoke the scales of a deep-sea fish. The dark alloy tsuba carries an engraved seigaiha wave motif — the classic Japanese symbol of the sea and eternity. The saya is lacquered in midnight blue with a coordinated sageo, a palette that evokes Pacific waters at dusk.
A collector’s piece for those drawn to maritime themes, a decoration for nautically themed spaces, a gift for admirers of Japanese painting (the Hokusai wave is echoed in the seigaiha motif), or an elegant complement to a classically styled katana. A blade that carries within it the sound of the ocean.
