The karyu is the fire dragon of East Asian mythology: a creature that, unlike the water dragon, governs heat, volcanoes, and underground forges. In Japanese legend it is also considered the protector of swordsmiths. The Katana Karyu pays tribute to that mythological figure directly tied to the art of forging.
The 1060 carbon steel blade (58–60 HRC hardness, nagasa approximately 70 cm) is finished with a thermal patina that develops warm copper-toned reflections in the blade’s folds — an effect reminiscent of metal freshly drawn from the forge. Natural sori curve, hand-sharpened kissaki.
The fittings embrace a fiery palette: flame-red ito over dark samegawa, a patinated bronze tsuba with a dragon coiled around the central opening, a black lacquered saya with copper-red streaks running through the finish like arcs of light, and a vermilion sageo. Habaki in copper.
A replica readily chosen by decorators drawn to dramatic spaces, fans of Eastern mythologies (Chinese and Japanese dragons differ in anatomy and symbolism), or enthusiasts of forging and metallurgy. A katana that brings the warmth of a forge into your home.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
