Forging
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
Every piece is unique, hand-forged
Kogetsu is the arcing moon — the slender crescent that appears shortly after the new moon: the first moment the satellite becomes visible on the night following its complete concealment. It is an image that recurs throughout haiku poetry because it symbolizes cyclical rebirth, the beginning of a new count. The Katana Kogetsu draws on this quality of the young moon.
The carbon steel 1060 blade (nagasa approximately 27.5 in., 58–60 HRC) features a pronounced sori curvature, almost a physical evocation of the lunar crescent. A mirror-polished finish captures light with silvery reflections.
The fittings embrace the lunar theme: midnight-blue ito braided over light samegawa (a sky-meets-moon contrast), a chiseled silver tsuba with a crescent-moon-over-cloud motif, a navy-blue lacquered saya with cream-white sageo. Patinated silver habaki.
A piece for astronomy enthusiasts, a decorative accent for rooms with low ambient lighting, and a distinctive gift for haiku practitioners or for those born at the start of the lunar month. A katana that evokes the resetting of the calendar.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
