Kogarashi is the first cold wind of late November — the wind that strips the last leaves from the linden trees and announces the season of the kotatsu. Rare in modern speech, the word survives in the stories of Japan’s rural prefectures. The Katana Kogarashi captures that quality of a biting winter gust, in deliberate contrast with its most striking decorative element: a flame hamon.
The T10 steel blade (hardness 60–62 HRC, nagasa approximately 70 cm) carries an authentic “Flame” hamon: an especially irregular temper line whose high and low peaks alternate like candle flames stirred by the wind. One of the most expressive variants of differential hardening.
The fittings stage the cold-fire paradox: steel-grey ito over samegawa, a patinated iron tsuba with a symmetrical flame motif, a smoke-grey lacquered saya with red flickers in the lacquer folds (flame glimpsed in winter darkness), and scarlet sageo. Burnished copper habaki.
A piece for admirers of chromatic contrasts, a fireplace-room display accent, or a gift for collectors who prefer replicas with complex compositions. A katana that holds a November wind and a lit candle at the same time.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
