In antiquity, amethyst was considered a stone of protection against illusion and poison. The Ninjato Amethyst carries that name and color: a blade tinted with a deep violet through a surface treatment applied to manganese steel — rare and sought-after.

The blade surface plays with light in shades ranging from eggplant to lavender depending on the angle. This is not a simple coating: the treatment penetrates the metal structure to create a permanent chromatic effect that evolves subtly over time. Straight blade of approximately 20 inches, 29.5 inches overall, sharpened.

The fittings continue the color story: dark violet ito on the handle, coordinated sageo, dark alloy tsuba with a faint violet sheen. The saya is lacquered in a black that shifts toward deep purple under direct light. A burnished brass habaki breaks the palette with a warm accent.

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
