The kazama is “the wind’s interval” — the moment of calm that opens between two gusts, a brief suspension in which all sound stops and every thing pauses. It is one of the most technical and poetic terms in traditional Japanese meteorology, also used in music to describe the silences between notes of the koto. The Katana Kazama embodies this quality of meaningful emptiness.
The T10 steel blade (60–62 HRC hardness, nagasa approximately 27.5 in.) is finished with a particularly uniform mirror polish, free of any unevenness that might disturb the reflection. Natural sori curvature.
The fittings favor neutral tones: light-gray ito over samegawa, a patinated iron tsuba engraved with a single horizontal line (a representation of the empty space between two notes), a saya lacquered in pearl gray with cream-white sageo. Patinated silver habaki.
A display piece for those drawn to meditative collector items, suited to music studios — especially koto or shakuhachi — and a gift for practitioners of zazen or admirers of traditional Japanese music. A katana that teaches the importance of silence.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
