The kazaguruma is the pinwheel, the colorful paper windmill sold at Japanese summer festivals (matsuri) and displayed on children’s banners during Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day). It is a symbol of favorable wind, joy, and childhood. The Katana Kazaguruma captures this playful quality.
The blue Damascus steel blade features a chromatic patina that shifts toward metallic blue-gray, letting the underlying Damascus patterns show through like visible gusts of wind. Nagasa of approximately 70 cm, hardness 58-60 HRC, traditional polish. A visually lively katana.
The fittings echo the colors of summer pinwheels: cobalt-blue ito over light samegawa, dark alloy tsuba with a four-blade wind pinwheel motif, sky-blue lacquered saya with yellow and red details (the classic colors of a paper kazaguruma), scarlet sageo. Burnished silver habaki.
A piece for those who decorate with vivid palettes, for rooms with a Japanese sensibility, and a gift for those who have traveled Japan in summer or attended a local matsuri. A katana that brings the joy of flags in the wind into your home.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
