The story behind the blade

“Ásmundr” is a Scandinavian name composed of “god” (As) and “protection” (mundr). It appears in the Icelandic sagas as the name of mid-ranking warriors. These linen pants adopt the classic cut of the 9th–10th century Nordic braccae.

Natural breathable linen, straight moderately wide leg, mid-rise waist with an adjustable drawstring. Linen is ideal for summer: it breathes better than wool and washes more easily.

Worn at summer Viking festivals (Wolin, Foteviken), in accurate recreations of the Trelleborg period, and in summer Norse character cosplay. Pairs with a short tunic and a cloak.

How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
