“Dirk” is the Dutch-Flemish form of Theodoric (Dietrich), the name of the Counts of Holland from the 10th to the 15th century. The Flanders region was known for its fine wool trousers, exported throughout Europe via Bruges and Antwerp.

Mid-rise waist with an adjustable drawstring, straight leg of moderate width, mid-calf length. A functional cut typical of Flemish merchants and craftsmen of the Late Middle Ages.

How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
