Raiden is the kami of thunder in Shinto mythology, depicted as a blue- or red-skinned demon who rolls his drums across the sky during summer storms. His statue appears in numerous Japanese shrines, including the celebrated Sensoji in Asakusa, where visitors pass beneath his imposing form to enter the sacred precinct. The Katana Raiden pays tribute to this thunderous figure.
The Damascus steel blade (nagasa approximately 27.5 in., 58–60 HRC) features a pattern that recalls the textured surfaces of taiko drums: layered, slightly undulating, reflecting light differently across the steel. Traditional polished finish.
The fittings embrace the thunder palette: electric-blue ito over dark samegawa, a patinated iron tsuba with a taiko drum surrounded by lightning bolts, a dark anthracite-black lacquered saya with deep blue undertones, and vivid blue sageo. Burnished silver habaki.
A piece for those drawn to mythological themes, a display accent for rooms with bold ambient lighting, and a gift for anyone who has visited the Sensoji in Asakusa. A katana that brings the resonance of a ceremonial drum into your home.

Time-honored craft. Masterful gesture. A one-of-a-kind, hand-forged piece built to last.
The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.
The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.
The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.
Each blade is crafted by master artisans according to traditional forging techniques.
