The story behind the blade

Sasuke Uchiha’s Kusanagi is one of the most iconic weapons in Naruto Shippūden: a chokutō — a straight-bladed Japanese sword — in deliberate contrast with the curved katana of samurai tradition. Sasuke chooses it when he leaves Konoha to pursue Itachi, and its clean, white, straight, minimalist aesthetic mirrors his character as a renegade. The Kusanagi Sasuke Katana sharpened edition is the premium replica of this blade.

The blade (nagasa approximately 70 cm) is a rigorously straight chokutō, faithful to Masashi Kishimoto’s original design. The uniform mirror polish captures light with minimalist reflections, in keeping with the character’s essential aesthetic.

The fittings reproduce the Naruto design in detail: tsuka wrapped in white ito over light samegawa, geometric diamond-shaped kashira (the Kusanagi’s signature feature), minimal tsuba replaced by a simple dark alloy ring, white lacquered saya, orange sageo (a classic nod to the Akatsuki organization), and silver patina habaki.

The blade takes shape beneath the hammer. Each layer of steel is folded and re-welded under heat to create a core that is both strong and flexible.

Tempering

The steel is brought to high temperature, then quenched rapidly: this fast cooling hardens the edge and reveals the hamon, the wavy line that runs along the blade.

Polishing

The smith hand-polishes the blade with natural stones of increasing grit, revealing its luster, its edge, and the soul of the steel.

How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.
