The story behind the blade

The Persian Curved Saber, the shamshir of medieval Iranian tradition, is the quintessential curved blade of the East — developed between the 9th and 12th centuries and adopted by the Seljuks, Safavids, and Ottomans. Its deeply curved blade, acute tip, simple cross-guard, and hooked pommel make it instantly recognizable.

This was the weapon of Saladin’s cavalry during the Crusades, and of Ottoman janissaries through the 19th century. A premium replica for collectors of Eastern arms, cosplayers of Persian or Ottoman characters, and those decorating rooms with a 1001 Nights theme. The Persian saber is equally prized by Crusades reenactors who value the perspective of the opposing side, honoring the rich martial culture of the medieval Mashreq.

How to care for your blade

After every use, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints. Carbon steel reacts to humidity and the natural acids on your skin: a light coat of mineral oil (Ballistol or camellia oil) applied once or twice a month protects against corrosion for the long term. For extended storage, keep the sword outside its scabbard, in a dry place away from direct sunlight. If a rust spot appears, gently buff it with a very fine stone and oil it immediately. A well-cared-for blade lasts through generations.

Is this sword sharpened?

Our carbon steel blades (1045, 1060, T10, Damascus) all ship sharpened by our partner smiths. Stainless steel blades (420, 440), made for collection and display, are not sharpened.

Our pieces ship in a scabbard and protective packaging suitable for initial transport from our warehouse to your home.
